Who can apply for a Georgia medical marijuana card?

According to the Georgia Access to Medical Cannabis Commission, three categories of medical marijuana patients may apply for a Georgia Low-THC Medical Card after consulting with a certified medical marijuana doctor:

  • An adult patient with one (or more than one) diagnosis of a qualifying health condition with medical records.
  • The legal guardian(s) of an adult in their care with one or more qualifying health conditions.
  • The parent(s) or legal guardian(s) of a minor (under the age of eighteen years) who has one or more of the qualifying medical conditions.
  • All patients must be certified by a medical marijuana doctor licensed to practice in Georgia before joining the patient registry. Qualified patients must be a resident of the state of Georgia for at least one year to join the patient registry.

What are the qualifying medical conditions for a Medical Marijuana Card in Georgia?

  • Cancer, when such diagnosis is end-stage or the treatment produces related wasting illness or recalcitrant nausea and vomiting

What is the minimum age requirement for medical marijuana patients in Georgia?

Patients must be eighteen or older, with a recent diagnosis of one (or more than one) qualifying health condition to apply for a Georgia Medical Marijuana Card. Minors require a registered parent or guardian caregiver before they may participate in the Georgia medical cannabis program.

What kind of identification do I need to provide for my medical marijuana recommendation?

Patients must have valid government-issued photo identification (such as a driver’s license) to apply. You must also provide proof of residency in the state of Georgia.

How do I Receive my Georgia Medical Marijuana card?

If approved, the patient will receive the Low THC Cannabis Oil Waiver via email. This form must be signed and notarized. Patients are then required to return the form to DocMJ.

When approved, the Georgia Department of Health Office of Vital Records contacts the patient via email and provides directions to the nearest Public Health office to pick up the Low-THC Oil Registry Card. There are twenty (20) locations where patients may pick up their Georgia Medical Marijuana Card.

How much medical marijuana can I legally possess in Georgia?

A patient with a valid Georgia Low-THC Registration Card may possess 20 fluid ounces or less of Low THC cannabis oil. The container patients possess of cannabis oil must be the original sold by a licensed medical marijuana dispensary, and the percentage of THC must be clearly labeled.

How long does it take to get a Georgia medical marijuana card?

The average waiting period between the submission of forms and the medical marijuana recommendation and decision by the Georgia DPH is fifteen days. The total processing time for your medical marijuana card may be longer depending on the volume of patient applications.

Is CBD legal in Georgia?

Georgia currently permits hemp-derived cannabidiol (CBD) products with 0.30% or less THC content. There is no restriction on how much CBD patients can legally possess.

How often do I have to renew my Georgia marijuana card?

The Low-THC Registry Card in Georgia must be renewed every two (2) years for the patient to legally purchase Low-THC oil or possess medical marijuana. However, medical marijuana patients are required to schedule a follow-up appointment with the medical marijuana physician after one year to review the medical cannabis recommendation and make any changes for the patient, if required.

How much does a Georgia Medical Marijuana Card cost?

There are two fees to apply for a Medical Marijuana Card in Georgia. The first is the appointment fee for the physician. DocMJ provides patient appointments for $139. We offer discounts to military veterans.
